Starting in January 14th or 15th, depending on your country, you can now check Hotmail messages without Hotmail Plus with Apple Mail. Ask a search guy named Google or whatever his name is about 'Checking Hotmail Messages with Apple Mail' for more information.

Httpmail no longer works .. but yes you can now use Mac mail to send and receive messages from hotmail

Here’s the information to configure your account on your preferred e-mail client:

    - POP3 Server: pop3.live.com (port 995)
    - SMTP Server: smtp.live.com (port 25)
Note: Please make sure to check the box that indicates that your outgoing server requires authentication (in most e-mail clients, this is not checked by default).
    - Username: your full e-mail address
    - Password: your Windows Live ID password

Also, our POP3 service requires that you use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) with the POP and SMTP connection and use SMTP authentication. This is to ensure that your e-mail address and password are not subject to tampering.

Oh! and be sure and register on live.com .. i have a hotmail account and i had to do so

Me either and this is killing me. The incoming mail server and description box is what I have no idea about. I tried putting the pop3.live.com and smtp.live.com in those boxes but it doesn't work.

    Beats me.

Ok its working... In the description I put hotmail and in the incoming mail server I put pop3.live.com . Then on the next screen it asked for an outgoing server and I put smtp.live.com . In the description box I put hotmail again. I checked the two boxes and it took off.
