Converting old ClarisWorks and AppleWorks to Pages

Hi I have had a Mac since forever. I have a tone of old clarisworks and appleworks files that I need to convert to Pages. I can't seem to do this. I keep get "unsupported appleworks' message. How do I do this?

ibook, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

Welcome to Apple Discussions

The iWork applications - Keynote, Pages & Numbers - can only open AppleWorks 6 presentation, word processing & spreadsheet documents, respectively. They will not open any other type of AppleWorks 6 files or any AppleWorks 5 or any version of ClarisWorks files. All versions of ClarisWorks & AppleWorks 5 cannot run in OS X. An Intel Mac can't use Classic, so you would have to use AppleWorks 6. AppleWorks 6.2.9 (the current version) can't open all ClarisWorks 4 or earlier files. It gives an I/O error. There doesn't appear to be a way to predict which files will cause problems. I've had it happen & not happen with all AppleWorks file types. These files can be opened by any other version of AppleWorks 6, so a good choice would be AppleWorks 6.2.4. AppleWorks 6.2.4 is the earliest version stable in OS X. Avoid 6.2.7 - very, very, very buggy! Hardcore Mac is selling AppleWorks 6.2.4 the last time I looked. You also can sometimes find AppleWorks 6 on eBay, but it might be difficult to be sure it's no newer than 6.2.4 and has an OS X-aware installer.

We're having a similar problem. Pages '08 would open all of our Appleworks docs, which are version 6.2.9; but Pages '09 will only open some of the Appleworks docs. The difference seems to be that it won't open any AW docs that use the outlining function. It seems to be a bug, since all other AW docs will open.

Are you sure they are AppleWorks 6 word processing documents? I've opened many AppleWorks documents made of outlines in Pages from the beginning with Pages 1/iWork '05.

If you'd like, I'll take a look at the document for you & see if I can figure out the problem. Click my name in blue next to this post. My public e-mail address is in the biography section. Just replace (AT) with @.

I can't find an AppleWorks document since I've already gone through & converted them to Pages, so I opened one that I had converted to Pages 2/iWork '06 in Pages 4. Other than it does not have a space between the number & the text, it seems to work. I just created a new AppleWorks 6 document using a template I had created years ago, saved it & then opened it with Pages 4. Again, other than no space between the line number & the text, it looks as it did in AppleWorks.
