Is it possible to turn off the startup sound on my Macbook Pro. I keep forgetting to turn off the volume when i turn it off so when i turn on my awesome Macbook Pro in class it gets a responce lol. So Again is this possible?
Why not not carry it into class sleeping instead of shut down? It will be ready to use a lot faster and will make no dramatic, attention-getting noise.
I cant put it in sleep because every day when i wake up i dont have time to turn it on and i am not going to leave it on all night. And it doesnt solve the problem that i dont like the start up sound period and even in my ever day life i dont want to hear it.
I just want to move this thread back to the first site..
I would like to disable the startsound, too. I know that there are tools for doing that job, but having a process running all the time just to get rid of this annoying start sound seems a little bit exaggerated to me (just have a look in the activity monitor: the tools are always running!). The Startup Pref Pane doesn't work at all on my MacBook Pro 15" (Early 2009), the other tool ("Psst") does.
I read that there were some MacBooks (I think last PPC generation) that could be started silently by pressing (and holding) the "no sound button" (this is F10 for the newest MBs) while startup. But that doesn't work for me. Are there any ideas how to deactivate that?
Just for anyone else's information who may come upon this thread:
It is perfectly fine to leave a MBP "on" all night in sleep mode. Shutting down and starting up every day (or anytime you use it (!!!)) is no better for the computer than sleeping; in fact, it may be harder on the machine.
I would also love to turn off the start sound, is it really imposilbe? It seems for your answers that if one doesn't want to hear that sound on start, maybe is in a quiet enviroment and don't to disturb, the only workaround is having the computer sleep or having turning down the volume before turning off the mac. If there is any reason for not being able to turn it off please post it, but if it's just something that is not supported, don't try to convince the others how is better to use their macs, I like to turn it off before I go from home to school, and I consider stupid having to start it outside, just to avoid hearing that silly noise in middle of a quiet stance.
