Q: New in-ear headphones & 3G iPhone

I had heard via feedback on the Apple online store, that the new in-ear headphones worked with the iPhone 3G, apart from the remote volume control.

However I ordered a pair via the online store & whilst I had audio I couldn't use the central button on the headphones nor did the microphone work? I sent them back & have today, taken delivery of a new set which still don't perform.

I know that the official compatability chart says that they will deliver audio only, but has any one got theirs to work with the iPhone 3G & if so how?

Many thanks

iMac G5, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

I'm using mine with my iPhone 3G and they are working as people say they should. That is, I can play/pause and answer/hangup with the centre button, the microphone works (and of course the headphones work), just the volume changing buttons on the ends of the microphone aren't recognised.

I did literally nothing to make it work other than plugging it in. I have firmware 2.2 on the Phone. Don't know what to suggest for you other than perhaps yours weren't plugged in all the way or the socket on your iPhone is faulty.

    Thanks.

Earlier I found the answer on another forum topic.

Lint had got into the socket. Whilst it didn't effect the audio function the multi-function was effected.

I couldn't see any obstruction but using a pin I discovered a layer of lint which I removed & the headphones now work fully (apart for the volume).

Good to hear you solved the problem.

    Enjoy your headphones.
