Adding more Hard Drives to iMac - Need more Space!

Hi all.

I have 2GB left on my Mac, i don't want to delete everything and i keep adding more things by the day.

So i'm wondering if i can add another internal hard drive to my iMac. And it has to be internal otherwise the iMac won't do its business properly with iTunes and so forth.

I have a feeling that an Apple wiz will know this one.

iMacs only have room for 1 hdd.

WIth only 2GB of hdd space left I bet your iMac isn't running very well. In order to keep your iMac running it's best one should have at least 10-15% free space.

You can always install a new larger hdd in your iMac.

I too would recommend against swapping out the internal drive; I'm not sure the view is worth the climb. Just add a Firewire external drive and move all your video and iTunes library to it and be done with it.

You should try and keep your internal drive "clean" by just using it for OSX and installed apps. I have a 320 gB internal drive and all I have on it is the OS and apps; total usage is about 60gB. All of my video, photos, etc are on my 500 gB external drive.

What you may consider doing is to get a bigger external HDD to use as your new Time Machine drive, and use your old TM drive for your movies/video. And then make sure that you back both your internal HDD and smaller external HDD to your new TM drive.

I have a 320gB internal, a 500gB external and a 1TB external. The 1 TB external HDD is both my TM drive and boot drive clone, my 500 GB external HDD is my video and image library. The 500 GB HDD is FW800 for speed of streaming, and the 1TB HDD is only FW400, but that is OK as it all runs in the background.
