Serial Number = 0

I just discovered that my serial number is "0".

I just checked it via the "About this Mac" window and in the System Profiler. This is the first time I've seen this instead of the actual serial number.

Has anyone else had this or know why my serial number isn't showing correctly?

Many thanks!

Did you have your logic board replaced? If so, you will not have a serial number in Profiler, although it still should be under the foot of your machine. The reason the serial number is missing after a board replacement is that the number had probably been assigned to someone else, when the board was refurb'd the number was erased.

That's interesting... It was replaced at an actual Apple Store a couple of years ago.

My iMac was the early 2005 (pre-iSight) model that had the typical loud fan noise issue and occasionally wouldn't reboot after long periods of being turned off. Thank goodness for Apple Care because they eventually had to replace the logic board, power supply, and hard drive.

I just use my old serial number when I need one.
