PowerMac G4 (Digital Audio) Memory Slots

All of the information that I have referenced indicates that my computer has three memory slots. However, when I open my Apple system profiler it says that there are four. Is this some sort of option that was offered at the time ?

Hi-
Is this some sort of option that was offered at the time ?

No, it's just an inherent mistake in reporting of memory in Digital Audio machines.
Not sure of the details, but it has something to do with the line change from the Gigabit Ethernet.
Some parts the same, some new. Used the same (GE) memory controller, but a different motherboard....?

Here's the specs on your G4 DA. http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powermacg4/stats/powermac_g4466.html There are only 3 RAM slots.

There is a "quirk" in the OS system software. Many G4s have 4 RAM slots so the universal System Profiler software is designed to show (up to) 4 slots. When you open the System Profiler on your DA, the 4th slot is shown as empty even though the 4th slot does not exist.

 Cheers, Tom 😉
