Just bought a 24" Display and every now and then I hear a "tick" noise around the speakers. I turned out the sound to check and the noise still occurs.
Yeah, I hear it too. My guess is that it's caused by the display heating up, causing the components to expand. I'm guessing it should be safe, but it is a tad annoying in a quiet room.
I've had my 24" Cinema display for close to a month and the weird ticking noise just started a week ago. It starts as soon as the screen is powered on. It's annoying and definitely not something that you would expect from a close to $1K monitor.
Same problem here. I found out that it was caused by an external usb drive attached to the monitors hub. Detaching it stops the noise. Attaching it to an external usb hub reduces the ticking frequency. Not a very satisfying solution.
Yep I have this problem too. I even exchanged it twice in december and they all had the same problem. For me, it starts to make this ticking noise from when i turn it on until about 1 hour in. It stops, then starts making them again when the display is turned off (lasts another hour). So i concur with whoever said that the noises are from when the components heat up and cool down. Its a bit annoying since i'm a college student and have the display in my bedroom when i go to sleep.
I also have this annoying noise. I recieved the display in 6th January, and until yesterday there wasn't any noise. I was frightened, because I had other problems about not showing anything in the screen, but they are now solved.
It would be helpful any reply to this topic because it's very annoying, I have to work all the day with music because I get nervous with this ticking noise.
I also have this problem and it comes from the bottom of the display where the speakers are. It goes... tic...tic...tic...tic then my room is cold and the noise stop then my room is hot.
It comes from the power supply. I had my led cinema replaced for this.
If you lower/higher the brightness of the screen there should be some diference in the ticking. Mine for instance would rather make a rattling/zooming noise on higher brightness. The power supply started ticking when I lowered the brightness to a certain level.
I lowered the brightness of the screen a little bit and no more ticking. Thanks! The reason why the problem is occurring to everyone is because the brightness setting by default are in maximum.
Received my first LED cinema display in January and had to exchange it (dust behind the glass + dead pixels).
Got my new one a few days after and i now have this problem of noise 😟
As far as i'm concerned, i would say it comes every 1 or 2 minutes. It's quite loud and very anoying ! !
I find it frightening since my first one never did such a noise.
I just read the advice about how brightness could have someting to do with the issue. I just lowered the brightness of my screen and though it seems to space the frequence of that weird sound (i would say it now appears every 5 or 10 minutes), it does not seem to fade unfortunately.
Same problem here..a noise similar to a working hard disk.
As someone said in this thread, it seems to be linked to the brightness level.
My display starts "ticking" on lower levels as if it has to reduce the power supply...quite annoying..
I got my Cinema Display replaced for this noise. Too bad the replacement makes the same noise. I am currently deciding if I am going to replace this one as well. Big chance I get a screen in return with the same problem or with dust behind the glass panel.
