Strange lines in iPhone screen

Try a reset. To reset the iPhone, press and hold the home and sleep/wake buttons until you see the Apple logo (ignore the slide to power off prompt).

If that doesn't help, try a Restore via iTunes.

It might be a software problem. Except for taking some time, Restoring (from a backup) is not going to do harm. If it doesn't fix the problem, then it's a hardware problem. If that's the case, you'll need to contact Claro for service.

Looks like the lines are shifting. Maybe it will go away someday. If you get it working again may I suggest getting a case. Cases protect the phone.

I am having the same kind of problem with my 1st gen iPhone (13 months old). Out of a sudden, I see some annoying white horizontal lines on my iPhone's screen after turning the phone on during a longhaul flight in inflight mode. On ground again, the lines remained, but when flying back home, the lines changed in its length and shape. Really strange. Have not tried a reset or restore, yet. Any ideas what the problem could be here? Software or hardware?

I too have had issues with horizontal gray lines on my screen. I use a case to protect the phone as well as a screen cover. About four months ago the lines appeared. I took the phone in to the Apple Store to the Genius Bar. They said that there wasn't anything the could do AND TRIED TO SELL ME A REPLACEMENT PHONE AT FULL PRICE. I was stunned. No offer for repair. I'm really disappointed in Apple for this.

I have the same problem. Lines just showed up and I didn't drop the phone recently. The genius bar had no comment. It does not seem to have any impact on use. As I have a first gen, I'm going to try to hold out until the next gen comes out before replacing it.

Has anyone got any resolution to the lines in the screen? I have one on top and bottom of my screen. It looks like it was made with an etchasketch.

The lines on my iPhone 2G are still there after it happend and after posting to this thread 3 months ago. There is no software solution for sure. It seems that, according to the following link:

2G iPhone users have to buy/install the entire assembly (glass, digitizer, LCD)
3G iPhone users can buy/install the LCD only.

Or make use of the warranty service...

Same thing happening to me for the past few months, They grow and shift. Annoying and would love to get this fixed.

*I have the same problem, it just appeared one day. It got worse ever since. It started with 1 or 2 gray lines and has grown to about 20. I don't know what to do with my phone I would really like to get it fixed. But im not sure what is causing the problem.*
