Pros And Cons Of iPod Touch And iPod Clasic?

I am upgrading from an older model of the iPod Nano and I was wondering if someone could tell me some of the pros and cons of each(iPod Touch and the iPod Clasic). I am torn between the two and would like some help deciding from someone who actually has had one or both of them. Please and Thanks in advance!

The Touch REALLY is the "funnest iPod ever". I don't think there's anyone who owns one who would rather have a Classic! Seriously, think of all the things a Touch can do that no other iPod does. Can you check your email, browse the web, play Pandora, watch youtube, etc, etc, on a Classic? IMO, the Touch screen is the MINIMUM size I'd want to use for watching a movie--I find it kinda bizarre that someone would actually WANT to watch a movie on a Nano's screen. I know the Classic is larger, but still...

lol, asking this question in an 'ipod touch user forum' will probably always get you the answer 'buy the touch'. i hope you asked it in the ipod classic forum as well!

to me it probably depends what you want to do with it. i'm not exactly sure the functions of a classic. but i guess if you have masses of music/films that you want to put on it, then maybe the classic is for you. i'd say the best thing to do would be to compare the functions of each.

And let's tell the rest of the story. In a car or using earbuds that don't cost as much as the Touch did, it isn't possible to tell the difference between lossless and a high quality AAC rip. I'm a musician and in double blind testing my ability to tell the difference between 256k AAC rips and lossless everywhere but at home using my stereo was no better than guessing.

You buy a stove with 4 cooking rings on it and when you get home one of them is not working. You bring it back and the dealer says 'well how often are you ever going to use all 4?'

You buy a Ferrari and it only goes up to 40 mile per hour. Dealer says 'well you live in Manhattan, when are you going to need more than 30?

Give me a break here. The new iPod touch is not performing as it should.

i'm not sure what these 'lossless' files are, so i don't know if i have any, but i haven't had any problems with my first gen ipod touch skipping.

i will say this though, i have been regularly browsing this forum for about a week now, and the amount of problems which seem to crop up, if i hadnt already got one, i'd seriously be considering buying one. certainly the 2nd Gens seem to be bug riddled.

And when it comes to Apple Lossless it isn't just the 2nd gen Touch that skips. It is a problem that has cropped up on all the iPods at one time or another. Sometimes the issue goes away simply by reinstalling the music. Sometimes it turns out to be the rip that's defective (but the iPod nearly always gets the blame since the user never thinks to play the songs on iTunes before complaining). I've seen it go away after the user reformats the iPod's drive and sometimes an iPod update solves the problem.

So it isn't just the 2nd gen Touch and you have a viable temporary work around. Deal with it, sell it, or return it. Whining about it won't make it better and I suspect you are like most Lossless users - wasting space because you think what you are hearing is better when you really can't tell the difference most of the time.

Keep 2 things in mind: 1) this is the Apple Hospital - people come here because they are having problems. Those of us with 2nd gen Touches who aren't having any problems don't usually post "Hey, great iPod!" 2) This is post holiday season and there is a HUGE spike in posts with all the new owners of iPods and computers. Those of us who are regulars refer to the month or so after Christmas as the crazy season - no disrespect meant to the noobs.

I was in your situation a few months ago. I have a 3g Nano which I absolutely love and still carry around with me because it is so portable and unobtrusive in public. But I wanted to upgrade so I blindly bought a 6g Classic (120g), thinking that it was the next step up and that I would never want or need a Touch. Guess what, I was wrong. I later bought the 2g Touch for its e-mail (Wi-Fi) capabilities and absolutely love it. The storage on the Classic is way beyond what most people need so it was overkill for me. I find that I use the Touch in its place for music and now wish that I had bought the 16G instead of the 8G for the storage.
