Printing greyscale

I have iMac with a Canon MX310 connected to it, I also have a MacBook which connects and see the shared printer on the iMac no problem. How can i print in greyscale from the MacBook? there doesnt seem to be an option to do this.. any ideas?

I believe you can use a greyscale color profile to use as the printer color profile for that specific print job. This will convert all colors to a greyscale, which will then be sent to the printer as such. In the print dialogue box you should have a menu with the program name on it (ie: TextEdit, if you're printing from that program). In this menu there should be a "Color Matching" option, with a few options. In there, select "ColorSync" and from the drop-down menu select "Other Profiles". Then either search for or locate the profile called "Generic Gray Profile" and click OK after selecting it.

With that profile selected, continue printing and the output should be grey. Optionally you can use the "Black and White" profile which will only output those two colors without a greyscale...

When you select "Colorsync", are any options available to you? In the menu that initially has the name of the application you're printing from, the first set of options should be universal. The second set are printer driver-specific.

What driver are you using? If you're using the one given to you by Canon, you might try the built-in gnutenprint drivers instead. Most printers should have an option to print in color and greyscale built into the drivers.

Im using canon driver, when printer is plugged into MacBook directly i have more options, including a greyscale under quality and media.

But when i select the shared printer, that option is not there!
