How to install OSX on PowerBook G4 with a broken screen

I am selling my PowerBook G4 as it has a broken screen. Unfortunately I can't blank and install OSX on it because I can't see what I'm doing.

I thought I must be able to use another Mac to reinstall OSX on the PowerBook...

I have the following at my disposal:

The old PowerBook G4 with broken screen
The original OSX 10.4.2 install discs for the PowerBook
My new MacBook Pro without Firewire 400 port
My girlfriend's iBook with Firewire 400 port
Firewire 400 cable

My new MacBook Pro doesn't have an old Firewire port, so I started my PowerBook up in Target mode and connected it to my girlfriend's iBook. Problem is, the iBook won't go through the installation process as the discs are for a PowerBook, it simply says the software cannot be installed on this computer.

I thought I would be able to use the iBook to install the OS onto the PowerBook via FireWire.

Any ideas on how I can get round this?

Here's the normal way of using Firewire/Target Disk Mode using a retail installer. Not sure if you can use the PB installer via this procedure.

Another option is to connect the PB G4 to an external monitor. An adapter may be required. What model PB G4 do you have?
