Hi norbster,
Welcome to Pages '09 discussions.

Could you please provide more information as to what, how, when this anomaly is happening.

I created numerous test files created many Copy Paste and as expected Undo performed as it should. My files were first saved then Copy Paste, then did a Undo. Copy Paste in a unsaved file as well. In my attempt to replicate your issue I performed that numerous times each and every way I could think of. With each and every one I was able to Undo.

I can support norbster's comment that Undo frequently does not work in Pages 09.

I have been working extensively in Pages on a large document today, and concur that when Copying and/or Cutting, Undo does not work.

At this very moment, I have just cut text from a table cell. Under the Edit menu, the top choice is "Undo Delete Cells", but the action does not work nor does the equivalent key stroke. I can, however, paste the cut text back in.

As an additional test, I moved a table on a page. The Edit menu correctly shows "Undo Move", but the command (nor the keyboard shortcut) do not work.

This is highly problematic when working with a complex layout with lots of item positioning.

Hi Grant,
Welcome to Pages Discussions.

Certainly I believe you're experiencing what you state. Sorry,I just cannot replicate it. If I could maybe I could find something to provide you a solution for.

Question, will the key command make Undo work properly? Undo Paste is Command Z, Redo Paste is Shift Command Z.

Actually, as a test I just quit pages and went back in.

The Key Command (Shift Command Z) does not work (system beep is given), but the menu command worked.

After saving (following the above fail), things are all working. Go figure.

I'm a long-time user of Pages, and I can say this is unusual behaviour. I'll keep an eye on it over the next short while, and report back if I can find a specific sequence of events which initiates the problem.

PS: I will note that this is the Trial version of iWork and I still have iWork '08 installed.
PPS: I used Keynote '09 and the Keynote Remote in a presentation yesterday. Worked famously!

I don't think this has anything to do with permissions or anything else.

This is clearly a bug in Page '09 -- at times it just greys out the undo/redo functions, and this is entirely random. While it's not a huge problem since you can go back and just use the erase or copy functions, it does mean an extra step of two from time to time.

This has been seen on every installed copy of Pages '09 in my office -- and was actually a topic of lunch conversation today, so it's not at all surprising to see this question posted here.

It's a bug. Be sure to report it to Apple with the link in Pages.

As stated earlier in this thread these forums are answered by endusers not Apple. We, yourself as well, are not at all affiliated with Apple. Also Apple doesn't monitor these threads.

It's you that must post a your findings to Team Pages. With Pages open click Pages > Provide Pages Feedback.

the exact same thing is happening to me... command c works fine, command z doesn't work at all.. no matter how I tried. (copying text onto pages, editing written text, using the keyboard shortcut, or even accessing from the menu bar... it just doesn't work...
then I quit the application completely, and opened the file again. undo worked fine, but cut would automatically turn my text blue and add a strikethrough line through it..

i really hope they come out with an update for this. I think I'll just go back to iwork '06 in the meantime. at least it's a demo.

If that were true, then wouldn't that be some sort of global function that would override my Iwork '06 or word '08? they both work fine though. there are some other problems, when i pasted an item I couldn't delete it with backspace, (even after saving and exiting, then restarting the application....) worked fine in word. (couldn't use Pages '06 cause i updated the file as a pages '08 file. but once i exported as a .doc there were no problems. It just generally feels buggy to me.... I've never seen these sort of problems in a mac application before.. It's still beta though so I'm not that worried. I'm sure they'll do something about it sooner or later... I hope...

I'm having this problem as well, i have the 30 day demo right now, at first there were no problems, but in the last few days things have been getting very annoying. i love the features in iwork 09 but if this isn't fixed i'm not keen on spending money on it.

More often then not pages 09 will no undo, the menu item is not grayed out, but clicking it achieves nothing, nor do using keyboard short cuts.

On top of that, secondary clicks (using a two finger click) sometimes don't work for me, for example the program will suddenly refuse to show me spelling options, nothing happens at all, closing and reopening the document seems to be the only thing which helps.

How big is your hard disk and how full? Do you have the requisite version of os X to run iwork '09?
Have you done basic maintenance/trouble shooting such as fixing permissions, repairing directory structure using boot from a clone disk or your install cd, clearing caches using onyx. Also create a new user and see if the same issue happens. Is it with all files or only some? Have you checked your fonts to make sure none are corrupted? Delete .plist files? Last, download the combo updater for the latest patch of os X and run it as opposed to the one that you do with software update. These are all basic maintenance/repair tasks to try when your system is kaflooied. Give them a try, this will solve or at least isolate most issues. If I had to bet I would guess a full hard disk though.
