How do I clean sticky residue- pulled off factory protective cover...

How do I clean the sticky residue off the screen of my IPod Touch? When I pulled off the factory protective cover it looks like I put put a wide piece of packing tape on there and left it there to bake in the sun before pulling off.

Suggestions on how to remove it?

are there no cleaning suggestions in the user manual?

edit: i looked myself

"Cleaning iPod touch
To clean iPod touch, unplug all cables and turn off iPod touch (press and hold the
Sleep/ Wake button, then slide the onscreen slider). Use a soft, slightly damp, lint-free
cloth. Avoid getting moisture in openings. Don’t use window cleaners, household
cleaners, aerosol sprays, solvents, alcohol, ammonia, or abrasives to clean iPod touch."

I know... normally they come off with ease. Not sure why there is trouble with this one. Called support. They did not give me any information on how to clean it. They said that I should just buy the 'protective covers' you can purchase at any store and apply over the top and it should work effectively. I'm disappointed they don't have suggestions on how to clean a $300 item I purchased... instead they tell me to cover it up and deal with it. ;-(

OK, I went ahead w/ my idea. It was tedious, and i was careful not to slop it along the edges, lest it seep behind the glass. The stuff came off in sticky little globs. Only took 1/2 a dozen q-tips. I also turned the q-tip around to sop up excess alcohol w/ the dry end. Finished up w/ a toilet paper (w/ a spot of alcohol on it) wipe down and got a smudge free surface. Couple of bits of tp lint left just blew right off. Careful not to spit !
Denatured alcohol is a better solvent than plain rubbing alcohol.

I would use Goo-Gone. You can buy it at just about any grocery store. It always works great for me! For your iPod you you should be careful, so I would put some to the Goo-Gone on a paper towel or a cloth. Don't put to much on it either. Then after you gently scrubbed you iPod, I would take a dish cloth and just put a little warm water on the dish cloth to make sure nothing got left on it. I hope this helps!

I disagree with you. Goo gone, goo off, or even wd4 works EASILY. APplied sparingly, the sticky crud comes off like magic and then follow it up with glass cleaner or Klear Screen cleaner. No harm is going to come from a careful cleaning of the glass screen with a minimal application of those products with a clean soft rag. Never apply cleaning liquids directly to the screen--the same caveat to follow when cleaning monitors.
