I agree that the Apple TV runs too hot, I have 5 of them and have issues from time to time with them overheating even in open space. They simply stop playing videos when extremely hot and you have to unplug and allow to cool. While I'm sure Apple has tested them for normal 110 deg operation, I agree with JDilibe990 that if external cooling is an option or concern, then do it. I am trying a new approach tonight which is a little unusual for me to do, but after browsing the internet I noticed the metal plate under the rubber base is full of small holes and there is even a cooling fan inside. HMMM... So I peeled the rubber off my "problem" unit and put small rubber feet on each corner. The unit looks no different from before although I did use 1/2 inch tall feet so it sits a little taller. One immediate observation is that there is minor HD noise noticeable right at the ATV, but nothing of concern. I'll get back to everyone on it's operating temperature. BTW, the rubber comes off easily and undamaged, removing the adhesive from the metal may leave some blisters as it involves a lot of rubbing (I didn't want to scrape the metal in any way).
