content in iTunes keeps disappearing

I have a new laptop and have installed iTunes 8.02 (latest version). After setting up and adding my music folder to iTunes I then proceeded to make a couple of playlists and purchased 3 new tracks. When I restarted my computer the next day all content had disappeared... I added the content again and proceeded to do this about 10 times or so as each time after closing down iTunes the content disappeared when i opened iTunes. I did not have any problems at all with the 7.5 version on my old computer. I tried out several suggestions found on the forum to remediate this problem but all to no avail. Can anyone help me out on this?

The Sony Media Management software might be causing a conflict with itunes.

I checked out the forum questions that you gave me the link to.
Very helpful -I tried out several suggestions and so far this has seemed to have worked. I still don't know if I've found the solution to this problem but for the moment the iTunes content is present. I'll let you know if it continues to function correctly.

Hi, Katrina S.

I did everything that was advised on your link - the problem is still occurring with either no content uploading when i reboot or all playlists disappearing.
I've wasted too much time already trying to fix this... thanks for your help but i think i'll just switch back to sonic stage. This is very frustrating as I think that the latest version of iTunes is pretty neat.

I re-installed iTunes (am listening to music right now) and it's working ok. I suppose when I start up tomorrow it'll be the same old story... I'll let you know.

If you do want to work through it, there are a few things to try. But you said you're short on time, and it's time-consuming to troubleshoot this one.

An alternative would be to copy the ITL file into some other folder, or to a USB memory stick, just before you close itunes. Then copy it back when you start itunes. Kind if a hassle, but quicker.

I don't know how but for the past three days iTunes has been functioning correctly.
I removed al my music files from the library and put them back to their original folder; reinstalled iTunes and let it go from there. I've decided not to copy my music folder to iTunes as it's now working "correctly." I haven't made any playlists or made any online purchases since reinstalling as I'm wary of it all going haywire again. Thanks for your help. I'll keep you updated on this matter.
