Hi.

so today i tried to connect my iPod touch to my computer to sync my music, but once I did, a message box popped up that read, "This iPod cannot be used because the Apple Mobile Device service is not started." notice, this is the first time this has happened (even though i have no tried to reconnect my iPod touch to the computer for about a week or two).

So I read through the troubleshooting and support page on the apple site to try and fix the problem. However, whenever i try to start the Apple Mobile Device service, and error message pops up that says,

"The Apple Mobile Device service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the Performance Logs and Alerts service."

i tried uninstalling, and reinstalling itunes and followed every step i found on this site, but this error keeps showing. i don't know what to do!

how do i successfully start the Apple Mobile Device service?

any help would be greatfully appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi ethann35,

    Security software could stop the Apple Mobile Device Service from starting. What security software is running on your PC? Try to reconfigure, temporarily disable, or uninstall it.

    You can bypass some security software but putting the PC into a selective startup mode as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1275

    It worked!
    It turned out to be my security software that was the problem. I temporarily disabled it and i was able to start the apple mobile device service.

    I had the same problem today and noticed another thread whereby someone suggested turning off your security controls. It worked for me after reinstalling both Itunes and Apple Device as suggested through the help site.

    i am having a similar problem to ethann35. I ave recently tried to sync my music, and it says the error message "This iPod cannot be used because the Apple Mobile Device service is not started." I have followed the steps going through maintenance and troubleshooting to turn it back on, but wen i get there, the mobile device service actually isnt there. Can someone help me with this problem, cause this is very different to be going through troubleshoot and they tell you to change the setting for something that isnt there
