How to get iPhone in VT?

So, Vermonters can finally get iPhones, but I can't seem to be able to get anyone at at&t to be able to help me.

The local place isn't a 'real' at&t store, so can't touch an iPhone (so they say).

They can't seem to tell me if they can make my existing account into an iPhone capable account.

We have two phones on this account, and I want to change my phone to an iPhone. I would like to do this asap.

I call at&t and they don't have any idea what to do, or even where there is a store in VT. All my searching gets me at&t telephone numbers in VT that are either disconnected or fax lines.

Any suggestions?

When you get an iPhone it changes the service plan you have with AT&T, but nothing major. Don't worry about them being able to change your AT&T account into an iPhone capable one, because it doesn't matter what type of Cell account you have with AT&T, they can change it to the iPhone plan.

Managed to finally get someone on the phone from at&t who could nswer my questions. Our existing contract needs to be migrated to at&t (which should be fairly simple though my local shop didn't seem to know this), then the plan gets modified for iPhone. I can do this in Montpelier, but want to check before I drive the 65 miles over there- and the store has no valid phone numbers that I can find- disconnected, or listed as 111-111-1111 by at&t.

Another case of 'able' and 'capable' being two very different things in our rural state.

Thanks for the input all.

I ran through the same issues trying to get my iphones in South Burlington. The AT&T reps on phone as well as using website did not have any info about VT this week. There is a Unicel (AT&T) kiosk in the University mall but it is not an official direct store. On Dorset St just down from the mall, there is a Unicel (Now AT&T) store that started selling the iphones on Thursday. Good Luck.

I've been following this with great interest because I spend a lot of time in VT and in the northern Adirondacks, so I am eager to see the switchover to "native" AT&T from Unicell so I won't be roaming any more.

Yesterday for the first time the AT&T web site stopped spitting out an error message when I pose as a new customer and enter a VT or northern NY zip code. The coverage map is still not updated, however.

What all this says to me is that the system is SLOWLY gearing up to accommodate the change and the problems you are having should go away soon.
