I've tried to use my m-audio keystation 49e in garageband to simply play a song, but it won't detect anything for the midi input. Same story in Logic 8 as well. I went to Utilities - Audio Midi setup, but to no avail. I also went to get the latest drivers from m-audio but they said the keyboard was 'compliant' and should simply work....
Sigh.
Is anyone else having the same problems?
Whenever I've used it before it just worked as soon as I plugged it in...
I'm running OSX 10.5.6 and using Garageband 08.
Macbook 2.1,
Mac OS X (10.5),
Black 2.6Ghz, 160Gb, 3GB RAM
I'm having the same exact problem. I tried different USB cables. I'm not sure what the issue is. It's only with the new macbook. Not sure if it's an Intel Core DUO issue that's causing it or not, but I'm not getting the power through USB as I would before.
In my other Windows based and older Mac Powerbook, I didn't need a power cable for the Keystation. I simply plugged in the USB cable, and wham... it was there.
My USB port on my keystation is a little loose. I have to hold it down in order for it to work. It's a pain, and buying a whole other keyboard isn't in my budget right now... so I'll probably just get a cheap USB Midi interface and connect the Keystation via MIDI into that. Hope you're able to figure out what's up with yours.
Pastor Macho beat me to the punch. This is exactly what happened to my keyboard. After trying everything else, I finally realized that the USB port on the keyboard is loose. I've found a fairly thin washer and inserted it on one side of the port (I found that the port worked when I pushed down on the cable, so my washer is on the TOP of the port). Kind of half-assed, but it seems to work, and avoids the expense of the midi cable purchase.
