iMovie 09 Canon 5D mark II movie footage compatible?

Footage imported into iMovie '09 in full-size format from a Canon 5D Mark II may cause iMovie '09 to unexpectedly quit. This may occur when scrubbing through the imported clips in a project or in the event library.

i can confirm the crash is in 09. Have crashed 2 times in the first 20 minutes of playing. Disappointment reighns

The 'resolution' isn't acceptable to me as i was planning on creating full 1080 video.

The word 'resolution' is annoying! Apple should change the word to 'workaround' and give some sort of update on why the issue is happening and assure customers that it's working on a fix as a matter of urgency, ideally with some sort of ETA. I hate not knowing whether this issue is even being looked at, never mind being worked on!

I recommend sending a crash report every time it happens... That's what I'm doing and maybe they'll get the hint

I agree this is not a ‘resolution’ and has stopped me buying iLife09. Hope they fix this soon as the new iMovie looks good except for this very annoying problem.

Believe Final Cut Express also has the same problems.

I agree with you completely. I can't think of many circumstances where the first thing someone wants to do with a 1080 device is to dump 75% of the pixels. Some sort of logging showing the issue had been excepted as a bug and its status would be good.

I was hoping that the QuickTime wrapper for the files would make it more Apple friendly. I can't say I have seen the problem yet in 08 but my only project was a pretty lashup where I didn't do much to the clips

This is happening to me as well. Here is hoping that apple gets this fixed ASAP.

Decided to go with 09 anyway and so far so good. Works pretty smoothly although final output takes time on a MBP

Am having the exact same problem. iMovie crashes while scrolling through the HD footage... Think its BS how apple says "To resolve this issue, import footage from your Canon 5D Mark II in large format (960x540) instead of full-size format."

Having the same issue with iMovie 08 and disappointed to hear of 09 not being any better.

Their "solution" is similar to buying a car with a V12 and being told to use only 8 cylinders. Unacceptable.

I'm really, really disappointed as I bought the Canon 5D2 in December 08, I then upgraded to iLife 09 primarily as I'd heard good things about it - especially the function to smooth out camera shake. I had one video crash a few weeks ago but it seemed to resolve itself and I thought nothing more of it. Today I went to create a new project from some new footage I took with the 5D2, and the iMovie app will not stay open for very long before completely quitting.

Very frustrating, and I would not have bothered spending £69 upgrading iLife - after the outlay on the 5D2 I'm decidedly poor and I could have used this money on something more useful! I'd also spent £500 last year on a second hard drive and more memory for my Mac Pro to give it the capabilities to handle larger file sizes. As others have said, the only thing to do is to ensure you send Apple a report every time it happens. In the meantime fingers crossed the latest batch glitching video 'settles' as the last one did.

its already mid May and as it seems the bug persists, even after Mac OS X update 10.5.7. I guess we can not rely on apple to fix that issue. iLife '09 is waste of money for sure. It is just another confirmation that Apple is interested only in profit by focusing more and more on the general consumer and less on the PROsumer.
