Q: mail sending 2 messages for every 1 sent ("sending 2 of 2 messages")

hi... did a search, but it was a tough one to search for.

an odd problem: mail says it's sending 2 messages for each message i send. for instance, i type a note to my mom (because i'm a good son) and hit send on the one email... the status bar at the bottom left of the panel says: "sending message: 2 of 2" or "outgoing messages: 2 of 2"...

however, in checking the sent folder, only 1 message sent.

it does not do this all of the time, but about 1 out of every 5 messages, it seems...

i'm worried about malware, spyware, etc... would there be such a thing? why is mail acting weird?

macbook, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

    Have a POP account and experiencing the same thing. I thought perhaps it was only happening when I sent an email with an image dragged from the desktop, but no. Can't find any pattern or cause. Just seems random and I can't duplicate it intentionally.

    I am having the same problem with outgoing AND incoming messages. However, I just sent one email message and Mail Activity said "outgoing messages 4 of 4"! This is very unnerving. Surprised there isn't more online info on this issue.

    Same problem, sometimes it say 2 of 2, sometimes 3 of 3 or 4 of 4. Sometimes just the progress bar with no count at all. I'm hoping someone here get ahold of Apple Tech or goes to the "genius bar" for an answer. This is unusual.....

    Same problem. 10.5.7, sends two mails when I only wrote one. Outbox is empty.

    Sends three mails when I send two.
    Sends four when I send three, etc etc.

    Any ideas would be great! Thank you.

    I have the exact same issue. I'm using POP configured with a gMail account. Every e-mail I send indicates "Sending: Outgoing messages 2 of 2" give or take.
