Iomega minimax - 1.5tb hdd issue?

i have an iomega minimax external hard drive which had a 500gb hdd in it. i soon found this wasnt enough, and so i purchased a 1.5tb hdd to replace it.

would there be anything to prevent the 1.5tb hdd from working in the iomega? like not enough power/current or anything?

thanks

Tom

It's unlikely that there are any voltage/current issues relating to the replacement drive, but the enclosure might have a limit on how much drive space it can access. You would probably be best to check with Iomega, looking for any data on that specific enclosure which might indicate a maximum drive capacity.

It's important to remember that aside from the two common types of internal interface (ATA and SATA) which external enclosures can have, the critical factor in terms of what drives can be fitted is dependent on the specific enclosure, not the interface. It's therefore important to check with the manufacturer of the enclosure to see what capacity drive that specific enclosure can handle.

Even if you have an Iomega drive as Tom does, if it's a different model, the answer he gets may well therefore not apply to you!

Hello

We using a lot of macmini's as server. We don't trusted the internal drives as serverdisks. First we thought to replace the internal drive with the WD VelociRaptor with 4.5ms, but their is the problem that the height is 14.5mm and the macmini fits only 12mm (or less)

So we decide to take external drive in the minimax case and replace the iomage HD with a RAID VelociRaptor HD from WesternDigital.

Does anyone know if the drive will fit in the minimax case and that it will not produce to a too high temperature?

When it fits we would have an extreme fast and reliable Server solution

sorry it will indeed fit in the minimax. i thought you meant to fit it into your mini.

however i know for a fact that the 1.5tb seagate ST31500341AS will not work in your minimax. it may power on for the first time, but once you turn it off and on again it WILL die.

i dont know if it is a firmware issue or if the drives have now been updated in some way. they do not work in a mac pro either. something to do with excess current or something (so the dealer told me). i have tried 2, the first died instantly, the second after turning off and on again.

they do have a 5 year warrenty, so if you feel that i am incorrect you could get yourself one and watch it break for yourself.
