Problems setting printer with Bonjour

I have a recent iMac and a new airport extreme with a Samsung printer plugged into it. My son has a new PC with Windows Vista. He has no problems accessing the internet via wireless through the airport extreme. But unable to print to the Samsung printer.

He has installed BONJOUR, goes through the set-up, selects the printer etc. and then at the end of the set-up process, he clicks on "finish," at which point he gets a message that "you do not have sufficient access privileges" or something like that. OR, even more often, BONJOUR freezes and he has to do a force quit. In any case, he is unable to use the printer.

Is there some setting on my iMac that I need to set so he can get through BONJOUR? OR ????

Hey, I've been having the same problem with an HP printer...the cd software can't find the printer through the AirPort extreme, and the downloaded software can find the printer(bonjour connection), but not an appropriate driver!(my printer isn't on the list, and there is no way to know which driver may work as a replacement). Very frustrating, I've tried everything.
Can you tell me how to find these Bonjour generic printer drivers? I did a find search, but came up empty. Currently, the only way to print is to hook up the printer by usb.

I had this error and found I needed to share files on the Mac as well as the printer. (I had been using the WinXP machine as a file server, not the Mac.)
Then I installed the generic postscript driver that was recommended by +Bonjour for Windows+.
And now it works perfectly. I am getting rid of an old Windows network printer. I even got a nice warning that I might want to adjust the energy management on the Mac to make sure I can always print to this printer.

Initially, I had to uninstall and reinstall +Bonjour for Windows+, and make sure to x the "create printer wizard" option just to find it. It had been previously loaded, and was running as a service, but I could not find a management interface anywhere: no IE toolbar icon, no Printer Wizard icon on the desktop, not listing under Start>All Programs, no C:\Program Files folder, and no Control Panel icon.

Help. I can't figure out printing using my xp to a printer hooked in my mac mini.
Here's what i did.
1. Installed the software to my mac mini and doing great. I can print obviously directly from the desktop coz its connected via usb.
2. I also installed the printer software to my xp.
3. I also downloaded Bonjour Wizard for windows.
4. I also have a wireless router, linksys. Doesn't have a usb port like those from Airport Extremes.

My questions are:

1. Can i print using my xp to the printer hooked in my mac mini wirelessly.
2. do i need to hook the printer usb directly to my xp? then add printer first on windowz? then i can try printing already wirelessly. Because as it is now, i can't seem to find the installed printer in my xp.
3. I guess i need to upgrade to AEBS.
4. Crappy w--dows
Thanks for nay help

iSphere:

Most of the Bonjour discussions seem to be talking about using Airport Drive and Airport Printers (USB drive and printers attached to the Airport Station). In that case I found that the Windows Firewall software is usually the point of trouble: The Firewall on Windows must allow UDP port 5353 for incoming traffic for XP/Vista to recognize the Bonjour printer or drive.

However, your scenarios is different. I take it that you are trying to share a Mac printer that's directly attached to the Mac. In this case it's really about "File and Printer sharing" on the Mac side, unlikely related to Bonjour.

Here are my suggestions (I have not tried these yet):

- On the Mac side, turn on these items through "Sharing" (System Configurations):
- Windows File Sharing
- Personal File Shring
- Printer Sharing
- Then on "Printer and Fax" configurations, turn on "Printer Sharing".

Try it and see how far you can get 🙂

Here's what worked, from another thread:
Go to printers - Right click on the printer.
Select Properties.
Select the tab - Ports
Add and new port
Select Stanndard TCP/IP Port and click New Port
Enter the IP address for your Airport express. Mine was 10.0.1.198 - Open the airport utility to find this.
Click enter.
Leave it as generic network card and click next, then click finish
You will be back at the properties page and click apply.
Go to the General tab and click test print.
You will still get an error message, but the print will go fine.

Hey man you are a genius!!! My wife recently bought a new Windows Vista laptop and everything worked except printing to the AExp Canon USB multifunction printer. It has taken me more than 3 hrs to get the darn thing to print. Thnks a million.
Could you please send the details of the thread from where you read this solution. I would just like to print it for my files.

Cheers from sunny Spain
