Deploy OS X package using ARD

Hi Everyone,

we have just purchased a copy of Composer from JAMF software and so far it has worked great. One of the option in that application was that I am able to create OS X package (in Apple or dmg format)but I don't understand that how can I deploy that package using ARD or any other method.

My understanding of apple package is that apple installer has to be there in order to execute any apple package on the target machine.

Has anyone else used this application?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,

macbook, Mac OS X (10.5.4)

In ARD, you use the Install Packages command that's under the Manage menu. There will normally be an Install command in the toolbar in ARD. You can also manually copy the package to a computer and double-click the package to install it.

Correct. The Apple Installer, though, will be on every system running Mac OS X unless something's wrong with the system.

We use the entire Casper Suite to manage over 6000 student laptops and will manage several hundred desktops in the future...You can't deploy a dmg thru ARD you have to create a .pkg to run thru ARD. You can copy a dmg out to a remote location and run it from there. If your wanting to load an OS you would need to have some type of netboot setup and you then could use your OS.dmg that you make w/ Composer.
