using the quake III universal binary

I don't know if this is the right area to ask this question but I downloaded the quake III arena universal binary from apples website so that I could use my (PC) quake III arena disc on my mac but I don't under stand what it means by selecting the retail Installation. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone can offer me a walk through of what to do.

imac, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

Alright so I copied the baseq3 folder from the disc to my HD. I created a folder in applications called quake3 then inside the folder is the UB and the baseq3 folder and inside the baseq3 folder is pak1.pk3, q3config.cfg, and pak0.pk3

When I run the UB a little screen shows up saying id witch makes sense since the game is made by id software, but after that the screen goes white a waited a few minutes and it never changed so I had to force quit. anything I'm doing wrong?

Same thing is happening to me with the UB (1.32c) and copying over the baseq3 directory from the cd. /Applications/Quake3/{Quake3.app|baseq3/}. I get a qhite screen but it's not locked up! I found it's actually the menu screen. So if you hit ESC and then Y then Return, you exit the game.

So it seems to me that either the graphic lib is effed up or im missing pak's that contain all the graphics, thus leaving me with a white backdrop.

My cd (which works on Windows and Linux) only has pak0.pk3 and pak1.pk3.

Any ideas anyone?

I solved my problem on your PC or Linux. install quake then install the patch from the link I gave above. Make sure it works then copy all 8 pak files to the mac and make sure your layout is as so

in applications have a folder named quake3. then inside the the quake3 folder place the UB and the baseq3 folder with all the pak files. click on the UB and for retail install select the quake3 folder.
