How to attach a PDF without it showing the entire PDF in the body of email

Subject says it all. I wish to simply attach a PDF without it showing the entire PDF in the body text of my email (Apple Mail). I must be missing something simple. I always drag the attachment to my outgoing emails and the PDFS always show the full content when I want just an attachment
Word docs and Excel spreadsheets as expected just show up as attachments when I drag them into the email.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Either set your Attachment prefs to Always put attachments at end of document or after you drag the pdf to the message, right-click and choose view as icon.

If you set the pref to always put attachments at end, you will not be able to attach an attachment unless there is text in the body of the message.
