Time Machine ignores folders

Hi.

Though the system.log says "Backup completed successfully.",
on my TM volume there is some missing folders, ex. "Downloads".
(which is not on the "don't TM" list)

i've put some tests, as follows.

1.I made a new folder "Temp" and moved files under "Downloads" into it, and ran TM.
Temp folder and all items in it, was successfully backuped.

2. I made a brand new folder "new Downloads". it was successfully TMed.
but as renaming that "Downloads"... it had disappeared from TM.

Thanks.

it sounds like your Downloads folder is excluded from backups despite what you say.
try resetting TM preferences.

go to the folder /Library/preferences and delete the file com.apple.TimeMachine.plist. then go to TM system preferences and set up TM again. see if it backs up your Downloads folder now.

P.S. This is the Downloads folder in your home directory, right?
