ipod mini menu button

help me! my ipod mini menu button will not work or respond or anything. what can i do?

Hi All

This has been a fairly common problem in these discussions, unfortunately. A while back, I and several others ended up sending our iPods back. Turned out there was a problem with the switches beneath the "menu" part of the click-wheel. The "toggling the hold switch" working in place of the menu button is part and parcel of the same problem. You might also find that the backlight comes on intermittently and you can't switch the iPod off by holding the play/pause button.

If all these things are true of your iPod then send it back:

Have you tried to reset your iPod? Hold the MENU and CENTER buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo on your screen and then release those buttons. You might have to try this more than once until it works.

🙂 Yours is neat, too. I take it you're an expert with Automator? I can't get the thing to stop crashing, but I guess that's a topic for another thread....

My avatar is the logo (well, former logo) for the film company for which I work. I'd love to post some links, but unfortunately, the owner is a control freak and won't release anything online.

At any rate, to get back to the topic at hand, check out Clarke's post. It appears that the most likely candidate is a bad Mini ('Bad Mini! Go stand in the corner!').

SAME thing is happening to me.
my hold switch isnt on
and if i toggle the hold switch i get back to the menu button...but i have to go throuh all the songs on a cd to get back to my main artist's menue...
any suggestions?

Hi Clarke,is this a bug in ipod upgrade software?I find the issue only after I finish updating my ipod mini...
Only one thing different with you said,holding play/pause button can switch the ipod off and hold menu and enter button can reset ipod,but click menu button cannot go back to the parent layer........

My wife is having the same problem. The music will be playing and she will hit menu to go back and nothing happens. To get it to work again I have to connect it to our Mac. Then it appears to reset itself.

Raymond,
I was wondering if your ipod was already outside the warranty period, as mine is. Based on the $100 diagnotic fee in the disclosure, it's probably a better idea to just get a new mp3 player. What did the repair cost you, if I may ask.

So has anyone figured out what is REALLY causing the stuck Menu Button problem? And if so has anyone figured out how to fix it? It's a VERY annoying thing and I would really like for my iPod to just work and play music. 🙂

Ryan, Did you get it to work? Mine only shows the Apple logo, I´ve done the switch move, the press select and menu, but only get to the apple logo... nothing else.. can any one help? Please

Again, very nice.

I'm actually not an expert on Automator; iPods are my thing. I just like the robot icon.

I think the problem is hardware as well concerning the mini.

When my Menu button stopped working, I plugged it into the computer and that fixed it.
