Mac OS Extended (Journaled) Case sensitive

Hi.

What is the difference between *Mac OS Extended (Journaled)* and the same format +*'case sensitive'*+ please?

Is there a recommended link I may follow to find the answer?

A case-sensitive format considers capitalization, so ABC and abc are considered to be different names. In a format which isn't case sensitive, they're considered to be the same.

I realise that but I don't understand what relevance that is to formatting a hard drive. In other words, if I reformatted, say, my external HDD as 'case sensitive' what difference in functionality would I notice (if anything)?

Having it on provides the ability to store items in the same folder with names that differ only in letter capitalization. Some applications may not work correctly with a disk in that format.

First off, thanks for the informative posts. I've always wondered what the difference was between the two types.

I'm in the process of formatting a few external disks I use for backups and would like to know the best option. According to what your saying, it's actually less flexible to have the casing sensitive option turned on? Thanks in advance!
