iMovie '09 Green Screen?

Hello all of you who have purchased iLife '09.

Could any of you post a video on YouTube or explain here how the green screen effect works in iMovie?

Thanks!

The Green screen effect works because, if you use a very intense color green when shooting your video, iMovie can replace that color green with whatever other video you want. You don't have to ONLY use it for the background, though. Wrap your head and hands in green an you're an improvised invisible man 🙂 Put a green spot on your body and show the background right through you. 😀

I don't have the right color green to play with right now. Were you wondering more about how you edit it?

No, you cannot adjust your green screen levels in iMovie.
If you already use Final Cut for such a thing, you are all set.
However, you will be blown away by the simplicity of use in iMovie '09 and the other apps in iLife '09. It's perfect for first cuts, story board and quick concepts
Be the judge by taking a tour of the different features here:

Good luck!

iMovie '09 has a pretty advanced algorithm for determining what the 'green' in your video is automatically. It's just for green, but it's very adaptive.

Also, there is a checkbox on the inspector that lets you specify that the last frame of your clip is a 'clean plate' (i.e. contains just the background) which can improve the key further if you take the step of moving out of the frame at the end of the clip.

That is once i have had a look at it once i get my copy. I did not buy it just for green screening but i was hoping that the green screen function would save me $200 in the near future.

By the way I have already watched all the tutorials there.
Im waiting on the manuals to pop up. But apple only put up the garageband manual. So apple please hurry up I'm getting to anxious.

I just received my copy of iLife '09 today and installed it this evening.

Like others, I was looking forward to being able to do simple green screen editing in iMovie instead of bogging down my system with FCP...

But so far I don't see how to do it. When I pull up the "Maps and Backgrounds" box I see the blue screen and green screen, but when I apply them to my movies they just get thrown in as transitions - not behind the actual video clip/subject itself.

Any ideas? Am I doing this wrong? Will I have to go back to FCP???

(Oh, and the "faces" featured in iPhoto takes forever to process a large photo library! My 30Gb library says it's going to take 240 minutes to process.)

I too, am completely lost on where the effect is and how to implement it.

I actually figured it out. You need the clip of yourself or whatever it is thats in front of the green screen. Then you need the clip you want to serve as the background.

Drag the 'background' clip into the project panel. Then drag the green screen clip on top of it and let go of your mouse button. And a little box will appear letting you select green screen, picture-in-picture, etc...

And make sure the Advanced Tools is enabled in the preferences.

Holy Cow Apple Did it again.

The Green Screen Works really well i think.
Ok I went to walmart bought green Printer paper tapped it to my wall set up a desk lamp and a regular light bulb set my camera to 60i and shot a few seconds i entered the frame and left it. Shot about 31 sec of footage

In iMovie 09 you add the background first then your green screen footage. Now it did need some adjusting but with the crop and i used the inspectors video tab to change the color and it works well.

Note: it adds white edges if you move a lot but other than that wow.
