Can you place an arrow over a letter?

I am trying to type vectors for my physics class and I was wondering if there was any way to put an arrow pointing to the right over a letter of my choice?

You can go to Character Palette (Edit > Special Characters), View = Code Tables, Tab = Unicode, 000020D0 (Combining marks for symbols), and find 20D7 and double click on it after typing the letter. x⃗

Fonts that have it are Arial Unicode, Code2000, Everson Mono, and Unicode Symbols. You may need to download one of the last 3 if it does not display for you.

It might be better to use an equation program, depending on how much such stuff you need to do.

Could you go into a little more detail about what you were talking about in the character pallet? It seems like you are saying that characters can be combined. Is this true? Like I could combine and arrow with an x?

20D7 is called "combining right arrow above." Characters that have "combining" in their name are supposed to combine with the character typed just before them. How good it looks depends on the font and the app you are using.

Sorry to keep bugging you about this. When I tried it, the arrow was above and to the right of the letter. Is this the best that can be done? Or am I just doing this wrong? I know you said it may work better with other fonts. I am using Arial Unicode MS and it didn't work. Should I download the other fonts that you mentioned or are there some that should already be in my Font Book? Thanks for all your help.
