macbook pro to sony bravia color problems

I am trying to hook up my macbook pro to my sony bravia tv. i have it hooked up through the pc input and i get a picture but the colors are all messed up. i was wondering if anyone knew how to fix the colors. i have tried the color utility on my laptop and the color settings on the tv itself and the colors are horrible. if anyone had any insight i'd appreciate it. thanks.

I'm having the exact problem. Earlier I purchased a Sony Bravia KDL-22L4000 to have as a tv for viewing FCP projects. I connected the TV on separate occasions to the G5 & MBP and regardless the colors are way off. Sometimes the pictures have a hard red tint and other times a hard greenish-blue tint.

The cable I'm using is a DVI to VGA. DVI from the computer to VGA the Sony Bravia. I know the cable is fine as I've connected this from the G5 to a projector and the picture was solid. Some people from what I've read say the trick is to bypass the VGA and do HDMI (Sony) to DVI (Computer).

I tried doing a screen shot but the screen shot doesn't show the blueish color when passed to a correctly working monitor (I should of figured that out). I'll try taking a video and uploading it sometime tomorrow.

If anyone knows I'd love to figure this one out as I'm sure the many other people having this problem would too.

By the way I tried changing the bit rate and this did nothing in terms of color correction.

Thanks.

hi,

no matter dvi to vga or hdmi you should get an acceptable picture. if it's a full hd tv you'll just be able to achieve a better resolution via hdmi.
did you calibrate your tv? i assume you use your tv as a mirror so you'll just need to calibrate it under the screen panel in the system settings. it really helps to set up a neutral gray backround on your computer while doing this because you will immediately see the tint while calibrating. - after doing this you should be just fine.

I completely get what you're saying with the different connectors but there is something very wrong. Don't get me wrong the picture's quality is acceptable; I mean it has smooth lines and, easy to read - etc. but the color is flat out wrong.

I know the TV can out put colors correctly, because last night I connected a Sony SR11 camcorder to the component input and all was good. I've only tested the Component and PC Input but the problem is definitely on the PC Input.

I do Graphic Design & Video Work for a living so I'm familiar when you talk about calibration, but this problem goes beyond calibration as I've been in and out of the OS and Sony's menus for calibrating and nothing seems to aid in the problem.

It seems some have this problem while others don't and what I'd like to know is if this related to a certain model # and version # of the Bravias or if its a video chipset issue. For people having problems like me --> raelle123 what graphics card you running? Also AldousH what graphics card are you using?

I know more than likely the simple fix is an HDMI cable and a DVI to HDMI converter but it really bugs me that I spent the money and the PC Input isn't working the way it should.

I plan on speaking with Sony today and trouble shoot with them. I'll also try taking video and putting that up today as well.

Thanks.

Update:

I've uploaded a 1:40 video of the problem, you can be see it below by clicking the link. After speaking with Sony they recommended the TV be sent in for repair or taken back and switched out with another at the place of purchase if possible. Tomorrow it will go back to Sams Club and I'll post an update on the new TV.

hi,

sorry for my late answer but somehow i can't log into my account using an apple computer. a broken or skewed cable would have been my next guess since i had a totally wrong picture on my bravia using hdmi - not just tinted like yours but really really colorful - in an unintended way - but twisting the cable helped.
i'm glad you sorted things out! be happy the pin fell out instead of being stuck in the tv plug!
