Does mac pro's optical out play DTS & DOLBY DIGTAL

Hey guys & gals,

just wondering if the mac pro's ( early 2008 ) opitcal out plays dts & dolby digital encoded files i.e. movies, music...do i need to connect opitcal out to a/v reciever with decoders..? or can mac pro decode on its own...? and if not can anyone recommend a cheap a/v decoder for mac pro...

You need a Toslink compatible stereo or speaker system for the optical out to be received and transmitted over 5.1 speakers. Otherwise, yes, DTS and Dolby Digital will play if you have the software to play it. Note: by default some movie DVDs will not play DTS unless you go through their configuration screen before playing the movie.
