Not just ear shock

I am reading how many have received a shock to their ears but my daughter got a shock on her abdomen that left a mark (took a pic) as well as her ears. SHe was immediately in tears from the pain. This is concerning. Any discussion on solving this obvious problem? Any response from Apple? Not to mention I now have a $150 dollar or so item that she won't go near

I've seen a few other posts regarding this issue and everyone seems to think it's caused by static electricity generated by the headset cord brushing up against clothing. That seems to fit the scenarios of when it has happened to me. I was shocked considerably when wearing a fleece jacket. As far as I know there is no fix. To be honest, I'm more concerned about the possible damage to my phone than to my ears!!

I am having the same problem. Do you have a newer pair of the Apple headphones? I first started to experience the discharge when I got my original iPhone headphones replaced under warranty. The new headphones have a rubbery wire insulation and I think that contributes to the generation of static electricity. I have since upgraded to the new in-ear iPhone headset with the same rubbery wires and have the same issue. That narrows it down to either the headphones or an issue with headphone jack on the iPhone.

Hi All,
I have noticed this when my iphone is charging. Then if I take a call I get small shocks to the ear. I thought it was just a small splinter stuck in the plastic, so I tried it on my tongue, and got shocked again, much worse on your tongue though. 🙂 I moved the contact position around the phone, it only happens when touching the sliver section of the phone. I understand that that part is the antenna.

It only happens to me when the phone is charging and I take a call, seems like it might be to do with the microwave antenna. Hopefully its not irradiating my brain any more than it needs too.

Hello everybody!
I had shocks too with the apple earphones and ipod nano newest generation...but only when weared clothes in syntethics, like polyester. I never have shocks when i wear clothes in cotton! So the cause of this problem is not the ipod itself, it's the static electricity of the clothes, carpets, cars, and so on...
But nevertheless, this is an explanation, but no solution....
