CD/DVD Drive keeps ejecting my CDs

Hi, My CD/DVD drive automatically ejects every disc I put in immediately. I can't figure out why it's doing this?
Does anyone have any suggestions?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.4)

There was a firmware update for the Intel-Macs' Superdrives that fried the drive. This happened to me and I contacted Apple to see what kind of re-compensation I would get but they basically said they don't see the firmware issue as a big enough problem to fix everyone's drive that's out of warranty. If you're in warranty, you're fine...If not, it's pretty much you have to replace it.

've been looking for an answer to this problem, but this post seems to have stopped.

My intel mac stopped recognizing any CD. I've been copying CDs, and at one point, I think I accidentally dragged the CD icon in the Sidebar out to the finder. Since then, the imac tries to read a disc (I've tried many different ones), and after a while just spits it out.

I've checked my System Preferences and blank CDs/DVDs are set to Open in Finder. Music, Picture and Video CDs are checked to open in iTunes, iPhoto and Open DVD Player respectively. Finder Preferences for CD are all checked to Show on Desktop. These have always been the settings and the CD drive worked fine before today.

I've tried restarting (warm and cold boot), and even inserting the Mac OS X boot disc, which it ejects as well.

Anybody know what happens when the CD icon is dragged out of the Sidebar?? or if there is any other way to "reset" the CD drive?

I have exactly the same problem that started occurring the first part of January or so.

It will eject any type of DVD including movie DVDs. I've tried the same DVD in my iMac (2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) which spits it out in my iMac Intel (one of the first intel iMacs) and it works fine. I've tried numerous movie DVDs and they all behave the same way. My 2.8GHz imac spits it out, my slower intel iMac takes it fine.

Today I bought the new iLife '09 and it automatically ejects that immediately after inserting it. There is no error message whatsoever, it just spits it right back out.

All updates are done.

How can I figure out what's going on with this?

I have the same problem with my white macbook, 13 in. I bought it July 4, 2007.
I just spent 30 bucks on the 10.6 dvd and when i put the dvd in, It tries to read it for about 10 secnds then spits the dvd out. this Doesnt seem right to me for a computer that costs over a thousand dollars. I am filing a complaint with the BBB and the Dept of Justice. Ths is total BS!
