Remote Dock Station - Hissing Sounds

Recently developed a hissing sound thru my stereo receiver/speakers while listening to my iPods through their remote dock.

Everything seems to start out OK but, after an hour or so of playing, the hiss becomes louder and louder until it overpowers the music and I have to turn off the iPod.

All connections seem to check OK. Anyone having a similar problem? Any ideas on what may be causing this?

It can be caused by many reasons e.g. cable, plug (poor contact) or the amp.

Try to do the following one by one :-

1. Make sure the contact is good by unplugging and plugging the cable between the dock and your receiver, of course with your receiver power off
2. Try another cable
3. Try to connect your iPod via the remote dock with the other input of your receiver e.g. CD, turner etc
4. Do a restore for your iPod

Still having this problem. I've bought brand new Monster cable, checked connections to make sure they're secure, and changed to another input. Works perfectly for about 30-45 minutes of play...then speakers begin to hiss.

If I turn off the receiver, then turn it back on, hissing stops...for a while!

Anyone having a similar problem? Recommendations? Thanks!!!

Mitch, once again, THANK YOU for your response. I'm sure you can appreciate how frustrating this is for me!!!

I've tried the iPod remote dock on a different receiver, as you suggested. Same hissing occurs. I've also used my iPod Mini directly connected, without the remote docking station, and there's NO hiss.

I'm rapidly concluding that there's a problem with the docking station, not my receiver.

Just got this thing for Christmas...here I am, two months later, and I'm convinced I've got a defective product. I hope Apple will replace it without their usual hassle!!!

Thanks Again!!!

If anyone else is monitoring this discussion or experiencing the same symptoms, here's an update...

Looks like we've eliminated all other possible causes including upgrading to Monster cables, re-setting the iPod and even swapping receivers!!! Problem remains!

I'm currently in touch with Apple...seems that whomever I speak to, they don't even know that their company makes a Universal Dock!!! Having a difficult time getting them to repair/replace/refund this Dock.

Recommendation: If you own an Apple Universal Dock, get rid of it! If you're thinking about purchasing one, run (don't walk!) away from Apple!!!
