how to change iCal calendar colors? (iCal Help's instructions don't work)

I am running iCal 3.0.6 on a Mac OSX 10.5.6 system. I want to use more than just the 6 default calendar colors. The online help (Help > iCal Help or http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iCal/3.0/en/9877.html) does not work:

"Select the calendar in the Calendars list and choose File > Get Info.
Choose a new color from the pop-up menu in the top-right corner of the Info window. To customize the color, choose Other, and then make your color selections in the Colors window."

I can choose Other and pick colors off of any of the palettes (web safe, crayons, etc.), close the color palette window before I click "OK" or leave it open, and it makes no difference -- I am left with the same calendar color I started with. Very, Very, Very aggravating! especially since I can't post to the discussion board (but that's another Feedback email ...)

G5, Mac OS X (10.5.6), iCal 3.0.6

I am having the exact same trouble. I actually the "change" process to work as instructed for one calendar but now it won't work for any of the others. I echo the frustration.

Hi, try this:
before going to Other click on another color beween the few listed, then execute the normal procedure.

You have to drag your "custom" color swatch down to the little empty boxes under the color wheel thingie. Once you do that, your calendar will be the custom color.

I have the same problem, and I use a lot of different calendars and colors. Dragging the color down to a tile in the color swatch pallette did not work for me. It seems to me that the only way to assign custom colors to multiple calendars is to quit and reopen iCal after each calendar. What a pain!
