GarageBand Input Source - line in?

Can GarageBand '09 allows you to plug your real amp straight into your Mac audio-in port (using a standard 3.5mm stereo cable), and used that port as the input source? It seems to be this would a much better way to record my real instrument as opposed to use the Mac built-in microphone.

I highly recommend using an audio interface like Apogee's Duet. You can get an inexpensive microphone if you want to record your Amp into the GarageBand. Ideally, you would plug your guitar straight into the Duet and use the new Guitar Track Amps to get the tone your after.

Duet will perform very well, but may be outside your budget, in this case you can certainly get a <$20 cable that will allow you to connect your guitar directly, but it may not sound as good as you want it to.

I can use my amp line-out to connect to my Mac and record my guitar using Sound Studio, so I know the setup works. Sound Studio lets me choose if I want to record using the audio line-in or the built-in microphone. However I can't seem to find in GarageBand '09 any setting that would let me choose the audio line-in as my input source... if there's such option let me know how to set it. Thanks!
