Repairing Permissions

QUESTION: Am I supposed to regularly Repair Permissions?

I'm not having problems (knocking on wood), but on my old mac, an Apple Support Tech told me to do it once a month. Now have a new computer...I don't like to "mess" unless I have to. (If I knew more, I would probably "mess" more!!!)

Do I repair permissions from the disk that came with the computer?

If you want to repair permissions, you can do it from Disk Utility in the Utilities folder on your computer. But there's little need to do so unless your system is having problems. I see little harm in doing a regular permissions repair, though. Just be aware that there are some messages that will appear to be errors that are not. See:
