Can't Hear Myself When Using Headphones on Call

When I use a headset with my iPhone, I can hear the caller loud and clear and they can hear me - but I can't hear me. I'm using sound-deadening phones, and there is no feedback so that I can hear my own voice (except the muffled sound that makes it around the earbuds). Is there a setting I can adjust someplace? The same thing happens with the iPhone earbuds.

What you're referring to is called "side tone". I don't member any Apple earbuds repeating this tone. Apparently, there are a lot of people that can't stand side tone. Most flight attendants fall into this category. When they're speaking, they hold the ear side of the phone away from their ear and talk into the other end of the phone as if it were a stand alone microphone.

I fall into the opposite category in that IF I don't hear a side tone, I wonder if I'm putting out.
