Can I open a Microsoft Works document in iPages?

I was using Microsoft Works word processor (.wps extension). I am unable to open these files. Is there anything I can do??

If you still have the PC, I would resave the files as something else that other programs can open.

I don't think it is possible to open an MS Works file in anything but MS Works. I seem to remember I couldn't even do it with DataViz. Your best bet is to open the file with MS Works and then save as RTF or Word. If you have the option to save as a Word document that would be best.

In answer to your later question, yes, you could save as a TXT file but you'd lose almost all, if not all of, your formatting.

Should I change them to .txt files?

Try the various options available for one of the files and then open them with Pages and see which you like the best.

.rtf and .doc would be better. You can always choose to strip off the formatting when you paste or import the text.

Stay away from rtf! Embedded images will not be transferred.

They are not often transferred from .doc files in my experience, either.

NeoOffice did a pretty clean job of opening MsWord docs with images, Pages mostly dropped them last time I tried.
