OK, so the login works for the moment.

NOW I'm trying to convert my iTunes account from AOL to an Apple ID and THAT WON'T WORK! It says, "We can not process your request, please try again later.". Good grief.

At least I'm able to login.

    More work to be done....

*** ... I can see this thread is old, but everytime I try and get application updates iTunes says my password is invalid. I have to "change" my password [to the same password] every time I need to download.

Was there a fix for this? Is this a different issue? It sure sounds the same, I first noticed it yesterday and happened again today, both times I was attempting to download free Application updates for iPhone.

Well, here we are, on June 21 and out of nowhere my itunes account and my iPod Touch won't let me log in with my AOL account. Never happened to me before and I know my AOL password is correct.
  • Sorensenss Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)
Myself as well, even after resetting my password via the AOL website, it still says my AIM account is incorrect, even though I'm logged in to the account otherwise. Seems to have just started happening to me this morning.

I actually found this solution from the Apple support pages and it worked perfectly for me. Even though the purchased songs weren't playing, I deauthorized my computer first anyway. Here's what their article said:

    Remove the SC Info folder
If you are still unable to authorize your computer to play your purchases, you may be able to resolve your issue by removing the "SC Info" folder. To do so, follow these steps:

    Mac OS X:
Quit iTunes and any other open applications until only Finder is open.
Choose Go > Go to Folder.
Type /Users/Shared/SC Info and click Go.

If Finder is not already set to column view, set it by choosing View > as Columns.

Select the SC Info folder and move it to the Trash by choosing File > Move to Trash.
Restart the computer and open iTunes.
Authorize your computer to play your purchases. Note: If you have multiple accounts you will need to authorize your computer for each account. For more information on how to authorize your computer, see this article.

    Windows XP:
Open My Computer from the desktop or Start menu.
From the Tools menu, choose Folder Options.

    Click the View tab.
In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders," make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected.

    Click OK.
Navigate to the following location by either typing it into the address bar, copying and pasting it into the address bar, or clicking through the folder hierarchy listed:
C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataApple ComputeriTunes
Right-click the SC Info folder shown and on the shortcut menu, choose Delete.

    Restart the computer.
    Open iTunes.
Authorize your computer to play your purchases. Note: If you have multiple accounts you will need to authorize your computer for each account. For more information on how to authorize your computer, see this article.

    Windows Vista and Windows 7:
    Choose Start > Computer.
Choose Organize > Folder and Search Options.

    Click the View tab.
In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected.

    Click OK.
Navigate to the following location by either typing it into the address bar, copying and pasting it into the address bar, or clicking through the folder hierarchy listed:
    C:ProgramData>Apple Computer>iTunes
Right-click the SC Info folder shown and from the shortcut menu, choose Delete.

    Restart the computer.
    Open iTunes.
Authorize your computer to play your purchases. Note: If you have multiple accounts you will need to authorize your computer for each account. For more information on how to authorize your computer, see this article.

This thread has my blood boiling.

I've been going back an forth with iTunes tech support for months on this very issue now. I should have looked here first...

When I try to log in, I get the "invalid PW" error pop-up. I follow through to reset my PW via AOL email- but when I try to log in to iTunes, I'm told that "This appleID does not exist." Oddly, iTunes tech support has no problem seeing/confirming my AOL-based account on their side. They even tried to allow me to re-D/L my content. That's cool and all, but what good does that do me when it won't even let me log in?

Furthermore, most of that old content is already ON my computer but it won't play unless I log in to the account used to D/L it.

After they debug this (ha!) they seriously need to figure out a way to let us sync up multiple appleIDs into one single account. Even if they fix their bug with AOL accounts, we will still have to log in and out of our different appleIDs within iTunes to access the content we D/L'd under each separate account.

I realize that being an AOL user was a poor decision, but must we still pay for our youthful internet indiscretions?

I finally had success fixing this.

I had the same problem when I tried to log in with my Apple ID while trying to turn on the iTunes Genius. It said invalid ID/password. I then reset my password, several times, changed my password, did everything I could think of...nothing worked. What I finally did however, was the following:

    1) I reset my permissions from Disk Utility, reboot.
    2) Went back into iTunes and tried to access the iTunes store from the main iTunes page (in other words, just pick "iTunes Store" - instead of trying to start the Genius) What I learned was iTunes was not happy with my initial iTunes profile, I think I had a bad credit card number and/or billing address. So I updated all my info in the profile including the new card number and saved. Then like magic, my Apple ID and password worked fine in the Genius and everywhere else.

In retrospect - I don't think step one was necessary, because I believe the account mistakes caused this glitch. But it was part of what I did so I included it here.

    Good luck!

had the same problem with genius not accepting my itunes login even after a password. Solved it per the previous post by going to itunes store and logging in. once done when I enabled genius i was presented with new agreement. login for genius then worked fine. no reboot of pc or restart of itunes required. it clearly appears itunes store is the master user registry and genius was out of sync somehow. thanks to all for this forum.
