"synced with another iTunes library."

I recently moved my iTunes library to a larger external drive. I carefully followed the instructions laid out in the article, "iTunes for Mac: Moving your iTunes Music folder," but each time I hook up my iPod, iTunes launches with the following message:

"The iPod "my name" is synced with another iTunes library.
Do you want to erase this iPod and sync with this iTunes
library?" etc.

I found the following thread:

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8425435&#8425435

but it sounds like if I follow the instructions there I will be compelled to do manual updates from now on which would stink for podcasts. So far I've just hit Cancel and gone about my business, but I haven't been able to auto sync my ipod. Is there something I can do to clarify the path for iTunes?

The thread you referenced is addressing someone who doesn't want to sync with a new library because it's empty. They were directed as to how they could move their music off their iPod and onto the computer.

If you have your library file with all of your songs on the computer, it won't hurt anything for you to erase and sync. It will just copy the library -- which I assume it views as new because of the move -- from the computer onto iPod. It make be a longer sync than usual, but that's because it's recopying everything. (P.S. If you're not aware, the sync between iPod and computer is one-way, from the computer to the iPod. The exception is transferring iTunes Purchased tunes from an iPod, which is an option.)

There is no reason why you have to update manually. But BEFORE you sync, be sure that the library you are about to sync with does indeed contain all of your media. If so, erase and sync.

Hope this helps.
