How to stop iTunes from auto back-up

Every time I sync my 2nd gen ipod touch, itunes automatically does this "back up" thing that takes 2+ minutes. I never insert a disc or anything so I don't know where it's backing up to. I remember something itunes asked me when I first registered the ipod (in December) about backing up and I just clicked "ok". It's getting to be really annoying now and I want to turn it off. I have no idea how to stop it or even where my music is backing up to. Can somebody help please??

Hi There

The backups, don't backup the music, movies, apps etc. More info on what is backed up is available here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766

The backups are stored on your computer and not on external media.

As far as I am aware there is no way to turn the backups off. You can disable auto-sync so that when you plug in your iPod it doesn't backup and sync, but if you choose to sync it will do a backup anyway.
