Safari won't load my university online service

I can't reach the login page for my university's online service ( http://my.shu.ac.uk). IT services are saying that Safari is blocking access to certain websites. I don't want to use Firefox so I was wondering what I can do to either sort the problem out or roll-back Safari.

The text from IT services is:

"Could not login; Safari user

There is a problem with versions 3.1 and 3.21 of Safari, which is blocking access to certain web sites, including shuspace.

The only option at this time is to use an alternative web browser, such as Firefox, or roll back to an earlier version of Safari."

Hi,

Can you try clicking on Safari preferences > Advanced and enable the Develop menu and then restart Safari? When you restart there should be a new menu at the top called 'Develop' - try changing the User Agent string to one of Internet Explorers to see if that fools the website.

The University's description of the problem sounds like 'rubbish' (Safari doesn't block access to any sites) to me, but that of course doesn't mean there isn't a legitimate problem of some kind.

Edit: Sorry, I would test myself were I not using Linux at the moment...
