Photo Booth Effects

Hey

Just wondering why my Photo Booth only has two pages of effects. I have Leopard which I thought allows me to add user backdrops and put videos behind me, but I don't have the option to select them. I have been into the contents of the application as I have been looking into new effects which told me I needed to edit the 'EffectsOrdering.plist'. On this, it lists the effects I should have, yet I still cant use them or even see them!

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks 🙂

It is because you only have a G5.

The Other Effects and Backdrops are there but you do not have a good enough Processor.

Well actually it is a bit more complicated.
The Fact is Apple pushed the Video part of iChat particularly for the Effects and Backdrops to the Video Card.
As not all people can update their Video card APple used the Processor to be the defining line.

Intel Macs can. Others can't (no matter what Card you put in)

〈EDIT〉 Ralph is a quicker typer than I... hehe 〈END EDIT〉

Regardless of your OS X version, our PPC Macs do use backgrounds.

iNtel Mac is required to use backgrounds (backdrops.)

(Don't be concerned that the Help file that I linked relates to iChat rather than Photo Booth because the requirements apply equally to both apps.)

You can use your Mac's Photo Booth > Help> Photo Booth Help menu command to search for more info about " Using video backdrops" (without the quotation marks). One hint when you search for help on this subject: the fact that Apple sometimes uses the word "background" but at other times uses "backdrop" instead in Photo Booth > Help and iChat > Help can make finding help about this feature more difficult. However, when iChat or Photo Booth is the active application on your Mac, you minimize this confusing by search the application's Help for "back" (without the quotation marks) to this find all related Help for either word in that app.

I honestly have no idea what kind of mac book pro i have but i know that my friends laptops are the same as they were issued to us by our school. They have multiple backdrops and a cool little light ball that will bounce around while im chating with them. I have transfered an entire user account from my old laptop (black macbook) to this one would that be why?

Hi,

Welcome to the  Discussions

Are you saying your MacBook Pro does not have some Effect/Backdrop Features ?

Is it just the ones your Buddies appear to have or is it as the Original Poster that you only have Effects and Not Backdrops ?

Open the Connection Doctor in the iChat Video Menu.
Choose the Capabilities option at the top.
Does this list say you are too slow for come features ?

If so, go to System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming and change the speed to 1.5Mbps.
You will now need to relaunch iChat to "See" the new speed.
