a248.e.akamai.net?

Hi. When I open Safari I get the message that safari can't identify the identity of the page, that I may be connecting to a website pretending to be apple.com (my homepage). I click on show certificate and under GTE Cyber Trust Globbal Root it says: a248.e.akamai.net. That's the only place I've seen it on my computer.

What's going on?

And what is the url address that you are wanting to connect to? You can use safe DNS by inserting in the DNS Servers box the following:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
System Preferences>Network>Show:Ethernet or Airport>TCP/IP

Please tell us more about the 'safe DNS' you have posted. I just plugged them into both my Kihei and MBP - instant speed for MBP and Kihei is the same as before.

Kihei's preference pane was blank. MBP had a couple of weird numbers beginning with 85. DNS servers on home service begin with 24.

Inquiring minds want to know.

FYI, Akamai is an internet content delivery service that Apple (and many other companies) use. For example, if you look at the URLs of the images in the Apple Online Store, you'll find that they are all 'hosted' on akamai.net.

Thanks for the response. I plugged 'safe dns' into Scroogle this morning and read up on it. I changed all of my DNS numbers over to the ones mentioned (including two routers). The results:

Kihei loads web pages noticeably faster, close to 50% faster IMO.

MBP now loads pages almost instantaneously when connected by ethernet cable; probably 50-75% faster in wireless mode compared to previous results. Found strange DNS numbers in the MBP network preferences pane, which may explain why it has been creeping along recently. I would like to see the Airport Connectivity speed up a bit, as it used to be near instantaneous at one time too. The 'slow down' seems to have started with the 10.5.6 upgrade.
