When doing a iPhone software update through iTunes, I received an error saying "There was a problem downloading the iPhone software for the iPhone. The network connection timed out". I could watch my download rate go from max to zero. It will partially load, but then times out when the download rate sinks to 0. Hummmm.....????? All my connections good, wireless connection good, settings good...humm..???

    Are you running any antivirus software on your computer?

    I am getting this exact same problem on large downloads, both through safari and itunes. It seems to run for a while, then the download stalls and eventually stops. Restarting it downloads the next few MB before it stalls again.

    In iTunes, get an error "There was a problem downloading..." The network connection timed out", however in Safari it just stalls. Same effect though.

    Nothing apparently wrong with connection (via ADSL router)

    Can you download anything else from the iTunes store? Try downloading the free single of the week.

    Try updating the iPhone in another user account. This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275 provides general restore/update troubleshooting tips and will show you how to create another user account.
