Movies won't download to IPOD Classic but songs will

My mom has an Ipod classic and an Ipod Touch, when she tries to put movies on the Ipod classic it acts like it's putting the movie on it but then it's not in her list of movies. She can take movies off but they won't go back on, they will go on to her ipod touch just fine. She can also put music on there just fine. Any suggestions?

Make sure the movies are in a format that the iPod will read properly. You will need to have the videos in MPEG-4 or H.264 codecs. There are tools online for you to use if you want to convert into those.

Try Quicktime Pro 7, it works brilliantly.

Try that, if not, post back.

If they are downloading fine to the ipod touch wouldn't they be in the correct format?

Is the classic a "Classic" - 80/120/160 gb 6th gen. or an earlier model in the "classic" iPod hard-drive based line? Different models support different bit rates & frame sizes.

She just told me it's a 30 gb ipod with video so if she put the movies on her ipod touch will they no longer work on the reg ipode?

No. The iPod Touch can play movies with better resolution/higher bit-rates than the old iPod Video series... Movies that the iPod Video can play will play on the Touch. Movies that play on the Touch won't necesarily play on the 30gb. The mere act of putting movies onto the iPod Touch won't change anything however.

If she really wants to play them on the 30gb Video instead of the Touch then I guess the only option is to convert to a compatible format. This can only be done for Non-DRM content, not store purchases. For Windows I would suggest a piece of free software called Super, don't know what's available for Macs.
