Simple question about RAM upgrade

Sorry, this is a really basic question but the answer effects how much money I spend on RAM.

I currently have 2GB of RAM installed in 4 of the 8 available slots in my powermac. I'm looking into increasing the memory to 4 GB but I'm unsure whether I can just by 2x1GB units and add them to the 4x512MB or do all slots need to have matching units?

I know that RAM needs to be installed in pairs, it's just whether additional pairs need to be equal to pairs in any other slots.

PowerMac G5 Dual 2.3ghz, Mac OS X (10.4.2), 2GB RAM
